The Organization: LAW Advocates is a non-profit legal services provider. The mission of LAW Advocates is to provide free civil legal assistance to low-income Whatcom County residents by linking them with attorneys and community volunteers.

Summary of Job: The Outreach/Programs Coordinator will collaborate with staff, attorneys, and community volunteers to develop, support and implement outreach initiatives to expand access to legal services throughout Whatcom County and in particular Lummi and North County Legal clinics. This position plays a vital role in building relationships with key stakeholders and fostering connections that drive community engagement and equal access to legal support.

Essential Functions and Duties include but are not limited to:

Clinic & Event Coordination

  • Schedule clinic dates, attorney assignments, and client appointments
  • Coordinate with court staff to ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Organize and facilitate outreach events, volunteer appreciation gatherings, and fundraising events.
  • Manage event logistics, including volunteer coordination and marketing and client opportunities through various platforms.

Community Outreach & Client Engagement

  • Develop culturally appropriate outreach strategies (flyers, social media, word-of-mouth).
  • Build and maintain community relationships, including with the Lummi Nation, Ferndale, and domestic violence organizations to connect with potential clients and improve services.
  • Arrange informational sessions to introduce programs and expand community awareness.
  • Publicize volunteer and client opportunities through various platforms.

Attorney & Volunteer Recruitment

  • Conduct outreach to attorneys via Whatcom County Bar Association, law firms, and networking events.
  • Assist in developing marketing materials and continuing legal education (CLE) incentives to encourage volunteer participation.
  • Track attorney engagement and follow up to secure commitments
  • Increase focus on recruiting attorneys for legal clinics and direct representation.

Marketing & Communication

  • Manage social media, website updates, and newsletter content to promote legal clinics and engagement opportunities.
  • Handle event marketing, including social media, email campaigns, and outreach.
  • Ensure effective communication with volunteers, community members, and partner organizations.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school degree or GED.
  • Experience in outreach, event coordination, volunteer management, or community engagement (2+ years preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both in writing and orally.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Deep commitment to racial equity, inclusion, and access to justice.
  • Experience working with Native American communities, particularly the Lummi Nation, preferred.
  • Conversational Spanish proficiency is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with legal aid, pro-bono work, or nonprofit programs is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to vehicle and proof of insurance required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment but also includes work at off-site clinic locations, which may require extended periods of standing and sitting.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to use close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
  • Regularly required to listen to others and provide verbal feedback.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, or balance.
  • Frequently working in a medium noise level environment with exposure to indoor heat and cold.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.50 – $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
